Human Rights Violations Report | Part 2: Week of September 13, 2010September 20, 2010
Appeals Court upheld a prison sentence of 8 and a half years for student Majid Tavakoli. Tavakoli is an Engineering Student at Polytechnic University and a member of the Islamic Student Union. He was detained December 7, 2009 on Student Day in Iran after giving a speech in a student gathering.
Shiva Nazar-Ahari, human rights activist and a member of Committee of Human Rights Reporters (CHRR) was sentenced to 6 years in prison, exile to Izzeh, and 76 lashes. The sentences were issued by Judge Pir Abassi in branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court.
Reza Shahabi, a member of the Tehran Bus Union’s board of directors has been held in prison limbo for over 3 months. His temporary detention warrant has been extended until October 11th. He is currently in Ward 209 of the Evin Prison.
Rahim Hemmati, a Nationalist-Religious activist and a member of the Youth Branch of the Militant Muslim Movement, has disappeared since Sunday. Rahim Hemmati’s friends have stated that he was in Tehran on September 12th and had left home at 8 pm. No one has heard from him since then and he has not contacted his family.
Mohammad Amin Valian student and member of the Central Council of the Islamic Association of the University of Damghan, a post-Ashura protest detainee who was arrested, charged with Moharebeh and sentenced to death has been released on leave.
The Baluchestan Human Rights Activists Association has reported that 3 Baluch residents by the names of Naser Shahbakhsh, Lael Mohammad Shahbakhsh and Khaled Shahbakhsh are in danger of execution.
Hassan Balaei, an Azeri civil rights activist and the head of a hiking group was detained on Saturday Sept. 4, 2010 by the Intelligence officials of Parsabad (located in Mogahan) and transferred to an undisclosed location.
A 25 year old youth was hanged in Khooran prison in Varamin, charged with rape, kidnapping, creating mayhem, intentional destruction of property and obscenity and was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment, 173 lashes, payment of blood money and execution.
