Maziar Masoumi, Leftist Student Activist at Isfahan University Expelled

Maziar Masoumi, a student activist at Isfahan University was expelled by the Ministry of Science committee. He had been suspended for 3 terms since 2007 and this year he was expelled. In 2009, Ministry officials stated, “Maziar Masoumi does not have the qualifications to be a student.” Although, in that same year, his academic file was said to be impressive.

Father of Exiled Politcal Prisoner Zia Nabavi Was Summoned And Interrogated for 7 hours!

Seyed Ali Akbar Nabavi, father of imprisoned and exiled student Zia Nabavi, was summoned by the Ministry of Intelligence and interrogated for 7 hours. He was summoned after visiting his son in Ahvaz prison and interrogated as a result of giving an interview and following up on his son’s unacceptable condition. Ali Akbar Nabavi wrote a letter to the head of Iran’s Supreme Court describing his family’s difficult economic circumstances and the dire condition of his son in prison: “My son is being held in the worst place. The area where he sleeps is infested with cockroaches and mice.”

Student Activist Mohsen Vafaei Detained

Mohsen Vafaei, editor in chief of the Bayaneh Azad publication in Yazd, was detained 11 days ago. He is a member of the Freedom and Equality Rights Student Association and has been deprived of continuing his education. Vafaei was detained while on his way to university. He has a BA in English and has been deprived of continuing his education in political science. There is no information about the reason for his arrest or his whereabouts.

3 Death Sentences Carried Out in Ahvaz

Early Saturday morning, October 16th, 3 were hanged in Karoun Prison in Ahvaz. Two of the three executed were charged with “drug trafficking” and the third was charged with “unchaste actions”.  All sentences were upheld in their respective Appeals courts.

Son and Attorney of Sakineh Ashtiani Went on Trial Today

Last Sunday, security forces raided the office of Houtan Kian, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s attorney, and arrested her 22 year old son Sajjad, Mr. Kian, and two German reporters who were there for an interview. The International Committee Against Stoning and Executions stated, “The detainees are being held in a secret prison in Tabriz and have been under interrogation. According to information received, Sajjad and Houtan have been questioned about contacts with foreign media. Sajjad has especially been under pressure.”

Arrest of Sanandaj journalist Amin Madani

Amin Madani’s family confirmed in an interview that he was detained by  security forces on October 18th and his residence was inspected after the arrest. Madani is the executive director of the banned weekly magazine “Korefto” and a contributor for the publications “Diyare Kohan” and “Nedaye Goroos”.

Haj AbdulRahim, Maulana AbdulHamid’s Nephew Arrested

Abdulalim Shahbakhsh known as Haj AbdulRahim, nephew and son-in-law of Maulana AbdulHamid, Sunni Imam of Zahedan, has been arrested. He was summoned to Tehran on October 13th and was arrested the next day as he appeared in court. AbdulRahim has so far not been able to contact his family and relatives who travelled to Tehran but were not permitted to visit.
