Greek Police Attacks and Arrests Committee Member and Afghani Asylum Seekers

The Committee of Iranian Political Refugees in Greece (CIPRG) informs all political activists and defenders of human rights all over the world that on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at 4:00am local time, Greek police attacked Iranian and Afghani protesters in front of the Greek Interior Ministry and arrested several of them.

During this attack, the protesters, some of whom were women and children, were beaten by the Greek police and injured as the result of police brutality. Ribwar Quobadi, a member of CIPRG, together with three Afghani asylum seekers was transferred to the Central Police Station and Homeland Security Office in Athens and was subject to several hours of interrogation under pressure.

Subsequently, he was freed at 9:00am when attorneys representing CIPRG and the Association against Racisms and Fascist Threats in Greece demanded his immediate release. Detailed statistics of injured and the victims of this brutal police attack aren’t currently available. However, it has been reported that a number of protesters received emergency care in front of the Greek Ministry of Interior.

It has been over a month that Iranian and Afghani asylum seekers have launch two separate campaigns to demand immediate processing of their refugee applications. Both campaigns have faced severe and horrific weather and security conditions outdoors. In an attempt to coordinate their efforts, two campaigns organized a gathering in front of the Greek Ministry of Interior and blocked the main entrance to the building from the early hours of Monday morning.

The Committee of Iranian Political Refugees in Greece requests all political activists and defenders of human rights worldwide immediately investigate the severe violations of asylum seekers’ rights in Greece.

اعلامیه مطبوعاتی کمیته پناهندگان سیاسی ایرانی در یونان
خبر یورش پلیس یونان و دستگیری یکی از اعضای کمیته و پناهجویان افغانی

بدینوسیله به آگاهی تمامی فعالین سیاسی و مدافعان حقوق بشر در سرتاسر دنیا می رسانیم که روز سه شنبه 21 دسامبر 2010، ساعت چهار صبح به وقت آتن، پلیس یونان به تظاهر کنندگان ایرانی و افغانی که در مقابل وزارت کشور یونان تجمع کرده بودند حمله نموده و چندین تن از پناهندگان و پناهجویان را باز داشت کرده است.

در جریان این حمله، تظاهر کنندگان که در میان آنان زنان و کودکان حضور داشتند مورد ضرب و شتم پلیس یونان قرار گرفته اند. آقای ریبوار قبادی، عضو کمیته پناهندگان سیاسی ایرانی در یونان به همراه ۳ پناهجوی افغانی به اداره کل پلیس امنیت داخلی یونان منتقل شده و پس از بازجویی چند ساعته تحت فشار وکلای کمیته پناهندگان سیاسی ایرانی و اتحادیه ضد راسیسم و تهدید های فاشیستی یونان در ساعت ۹ صبح آزاد شده اند . از تعداد زخمی های این حمله وحشیانه پلیس یونان آمار دقیقی در دست نیست و چندین نفر در بیمارستان مقابل ساختمان وزارت کشور ، تحت مداوای اورژانسی قرار گرفته اند .

پناهجویان ایرانی و افغانی که بیش از یک ماه است در ۲ کمپین جداگانه دست به تحصن اعتراضی زده و برای رسیدن به خواسته های بر حقشان یعنی رسیدگی به تقاضای پناهندگی سیاسی تحت شرایط بسیار وحشتناک امنیتی و وضعیت وخیم آب و هوایی به سر میبرند، طی اقدامی هماهنگ حرکت اعتراضی خود را به مقابل درب ورودی ساختمان وزارت کشور منتقل نموده و از اولین ساعات کاری روز دوشنبه، ورودی اصلی ساختمان وزارت کشور یونان را مسدود کرده اند .

کمیته پناهندگان سیاسی ایرانی در یونان خواهان رسیدگی فوری مجامع حقوق بشری و واکنش فعالین سیاسی عرصه حقوق پناهندگی نسبت به شرایط حاد پناهجویان در کشور یونان است .
