Committee of Human Rights Reporters (CHRR) – Children’s and women’s rights activist Maryam Zia was released from prison on the evening of March 28, 2010.
In the past few days, reports have emerged on Zia’s grave physical condition following a hunger strike and her transfer to the prison’s clinic. After the doctor recommended that Maryam Zia be released from prison due to her physical condition, the presiding judge agreed to relase her on bail.
Prior to Norooz (Persian New Year), Maryam Zia’s family ensured a $30,000 USD bail amount, but the interrogators working on the case prevented her release.
Maryam Zia, the director of the Association for a World Suitable for a Child, was arrested by security forces on the morning of December 31, 2009 during widespread Ashura protest arrests. Zia was arrested once before on June 12, 2006 for attending a gathering on Haft-Tir Square organized by women’s rights activist. The gathering was to protest discriminatory laws against women.

کمیته گزارشگران حقوق بشر – مریم ضیاء، فعال حقوق کودک و زنان عصر امروز، دوشنبه ۹ فروردین آزاد شد.
در روزهای گذشته اخباری مبنی بر وضعیت وخیم جسمانی این فعال حقوق کودک و انتقال وی به بهداری اوین در پی اعتصاب غذای وی منتشر شده بود. پس از اظهار نظر پزشکان مبنی بر به صلاح‌نبودن ادامه بازداشت ضیاء به دلیل وخامت وضعیت جسمانی، قاضی پرونده با تبدیل قرار بازداشت او موافقت کرد و مریم ضیاء آزاد شد.
گفتنی است پیش از آغاز سال جدید، خانواده این فعال اجتماعی وثیقه ۳۰ میلیون تومانی تعیین شده برای وی را تودیع کردند اما بازجویان پرونده از آزادی وی ممانعت به عمل آوردند.
مریم ضیاء، فعال حقوق زنان و کودکان و مدیر جعیت تلاش برای جهانی شایسته کودک، صبح روز ۱۰ دی ماه سال گذشته و در پی بازداشت‌های گسترده پس از وقایع عاشورا توسط نیروهای امنیتی بازداشت شد. وی پیش از این نیز در ۲۲ خردادماه سال ۱۳۸۵ در تجمعی که به قصد اعتراض به «قوانین نابرابر» از سوی فعالان زن در میدان هفت تیر برگزار شد، بازداشت شده بود.
