Human Rights Activist Navid Khanjani Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison

The Committee of Human Rights Reporters – Navid Khanjani, a human rights activist and student of Baha’i faith banned from higher education was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined by Judge Pirabbasi of branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court.

The four-page sentence handed down to his lawyer Shima Ghoosheh on January 30, 2011 is the longest prison term that a human rights activist has received. His trial took place on December 20, 2010.

Navid Khanjani was charged with “Acting against national security”, “Propaganda against the regime”, “Disturbing public order”,  “Libel”, “Founding the Baha’i Education Rights Committee”, and “Membership in [two human rights organizations], the Committee of Human Rights Reporters (CHRR) and Human Rights Activists (HRA)”.

In another written sentence, which was previously given to his lawyer, Navid Khanjani was also banned from leaving the country.

Navid Khanjani was arrested in Isfahan on March 11, 2010. After spending 65 days in ward 2A of Evin prison, and the first 25 days in solitary confinement, he was released on a $100 thousand USD bail. During his detention, in addition to being subjected to intense interrogations, he was forced to record [false] confessions against himself while under duress.

نوید خانجانی، فعال حقوق بشر به ۱۲ سال حبس تعزیری و جریمه نقدی محکوم شد

کمیته گزارشگران حقوق بشر- نوید خانجانی، دانشجوی محروم از تحصیل بهایی و فعال حقوق‌ بشر از سوی شعبه‌ی 26 دادگاه انقلاب اسلامی به ریاست قاضی پیرعباس، به تحمل 12سال حبس تعزیری و جریمه نقدی محکوم شد.

حکم مذکور که سنگین ترین حکم در میان فعالان حقوق بشر به شمار می آید، روز یک شنبه، 10 بهمن ماه جاری، طی 4 صفحه به شیما قوشه، وکیل نوید خانجانی ابلاغ شده است. دادگاه نوید خانجانی روز 29 آذرماه سال جاری تشکیل شده بود.

اتهامات نویدخانجانی در این حکم، «نشر اکاذیب»، «تشویش اذهان و تبلیغ علیه نظام به واسطه‌ی انتشار اخبار و گزارش‌ها و انجام مصاحبه با تلویزیون و رادیوهای بیگانه»، «عضویت در شورای مرکزی کمیته گزارشگران حقوق بشر» و همچنین «تشکیل گروه محرومین از تحصیل» عنوان شده است.

این دانشجوی محروم از تحصیل بهایی پیشتر نیز، طی حکم کتبی که به وکیل وی ابلاغ شده بود ممنوع الخروج شده بود.

نوید خانجانی 11 اسفند ماه سال گذشته در اصفهان بازداشت و پس از گذراندن 65 روز حبس موقت در (بند دو الف سپاه) زندان اوین که 25 روز نخست آن را در سلول انفرادی به سر کرد، 13 اریبهشت سال جاری با قرار وثیقه‌ی 100 میلیون تومانی آزاد شد. خانجانی، طی دوران بازداشت خود، علاوه بر بازجویی های سنگین، برای انجام مصاحبه ویدیویی تحت فشار قرار داشت.
