ALERT | Iran’s Supreme Court: Death Sentences Will Now Be Issued In Less Than 10 Days

March 16th, 2011 – According to the Human Rights House of Iran (RAHANA), Ayatollah Ahmad Mohseni Gorgani, the head of Iran’s Supreme Court announced, “Moving forward, death sentences upheld by the criminal courts will be processed by the Supreme Court in less than 10 days.”
Ayatollah Gorgani added, “The head of Iran’s Judiciary [Ayatollah Amoli Larijani] has requested that the Supreme Court expedite the cases associated with evil individuals and criminals causing public disorder and disturbing people’s peace of mind.”
According to Mehr News, Gorgani explained the rationale for this recent order by the judiciary as follows: “Prolonging the handling of such cases for a few months has no effect on our society. As such, it is important that we handle these cases quickly and ensure that the sentences are upheld.”
While reiterating that the cases upheld by the criminal courts are being expedited by the Supreme Court in less than 10 days, Gorgani expands on the matter stating, “Iran’s Supreme Court consists of 32 specialized branches. 3 of these branches are dedicated to dealing with cases associated with hoodlums, criminals, those who violate the law, enemies of God (Mohareb), thieves and other dangerous offenders.”
This news comes at the heals of a growing trend of executions in Iran, leading to concerns by many human rights organizations, including serious criticism against Iran in recent days by the UN Human Rights Council.
In this context, Gorgani emphasizes that Iran’s judiciary will expedite cases of those who “disturb public order”, stating that “there is no doubt that they will receive the death sentence”.
Reports by the Human Rights House of Iran, based on official sources within Iran, indicate that as of the end of the month of February 313 individuals have been executed in Iran.

حکم اعدام در کمتر از ۱۰ روز صادر میشود

آیت الله گرکانی رئیس دیوان عالی کشور گفت: «احکام قطعی اعدام از سوی دادگاه کیفری در کمتر از ۱۰ روز در دیوان عالی کشور رسیدگی میشود.»
آیت الله احمد محسنی گرکانی گفت: «بر اساس دستور رئیس قوه قضائیه دیوان عالی کشور ملزم شده به پرونده افرار شرور و مجرمانی که موجب اخلال در امنیت و آسایش مردم میشوند زودتر از موعد رسیدگی کند.»
گرکانی در مورد علت این دستور جدید به خبرگزاری «مهر» گفت: «رسیدگی به این پروندهها بعد از چند ماه هیچگونه تاثیری در اجتماع ندارد لذا زمانی اجرای حکم تاثیر گذار است که پرونده به سرعت رسیدگی شده و حکم اجرا شود.»
وی با بیان اینکه هم اکنون پرونده های رسیده از دادگاه کیفری با حکم اعدام در کمتر از ۱۰ روز در دیوان عالی کشور رسیدگی می شود گفت: «دیوان عالی کشور ۳۲ شعبه تخصصی دارد که سه شعبه آن ویژه رسیدگی به پرونده های اشرار، جنایتکاران، متجاوزان، محاربین، سارقان و مجرمان خطرناک است.»
این در حالی است که روند رو به افزایش اعدامها در ایران همواره با نگرانی از سوی محافل حقوق بشر دنبال شده و طی روزهای گذشته نیز در سازمان ملل و نشست شورای حقوق بشر این سازمان در مورد ایران، انتقادات جدی به ایران در این زمینه وارد شد.
گرکانی اما در این زمینه تأکید کرد قوه قضائیه در کمتر از یک ماه به پرونده «متجاوزین به نوامیس و امنیت مردم» رسیدگی میکند و «بدون شک حکمشان اعدام است.»
بر اساس گزارش ارائه شده از سوی خانه حقوق بشر ایران که بر اساس گزارش منابع رسمی در ایران است، از ابتدای سال جاری تا پایان بهمن ماه ۳۱۳ نفر در ایران اعدام شدهاند

Please do not execute Youcef Nadarkhani for being a Christian. If Allah wanted him dead do you not believe He has the power to strike him dead? Forcing people to profess with their lips what they do not believe in their heart does not bring honor to Allah. In America people of all different religions coexist peaceably. Laws protect peoples right to worship however they choose to worship. We believe your relationship with God is personal and should remain between you and your creator.
I pray that you will release Youcef, and consider that he and other Christians mean no harm to your government, as we in America recognize that Muslims are no threat to America and have a right to worship freely in America.
