Ahmad Zeidabadi returns to prison after two-day furlough

Persian2English, August 6 — Ahmad Zeidabadi, journalist, political analyst, the secretary general of Tahkim Vahdat (student alumni organization), and member of the board of directors of the Association of Iranian journalists, returned to Rajai Shahr ‘Gohardasht’ prison on Saturday by the orders of the Iranian Judiciary. Ahmad Zeidabadi had been released from prison on a two-day furlough after enduring 780 days behind bars.

The Revolutionary Court had sentenced Ahmad Zeidabadi to the heavy and inhumane sentence of six years in prison, and five of those years have to be spent in prison exile. The court also issued him a life-time ban from: political activities, participation and support of parties, giving interviews, and presenting speeches and oral or written analyses. The Appeals Court upheld the sentence.

In May 2011, an independent international jury of 12 media professionals selected imprisoned journalist Ahmad Zeidabadi as the laureate of this year’s UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize. Additionally, in October 2010, he received the the 2010 Golden Pen of Freedom award, which is the annual press freedom prize of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).
