Peyman Aref's back severely damaged after Iranian authorities lashed the activist 74 times

Persian2English – The sentence of 74 lashes for Peyman Aref was executed today in Evin prison prior to his scheduled release.

Samira Jamshidi, Mr. Aref’s wife confirmed the news to Human Rights House of Iran. She had stated that the sentence was executed after her husband’s one-year prison sentence had come to an end and he was about to be released.

In March 2010, the Tehran Revolutionary Court had sentenced the political activist to 74 lashes for “Insulting the President”. The court also sentenced him to a one-year prison term and a lifetime ban from journalism and political activities, including membership in political parties.

Samira Jamshidi described her husband to be in “good” spirits, but there are reports that he is not in good physical condition, and his back has been “severely” damaged and wounded as a result of the lashes.

Journalist Peyman Aref is a former student activist and member of the National Front of Iran.

He was arrested in the early days following the disputed June 2009 Iranian presidential election. In April 2010 he suffered a heart attack from the pressures he endured in prison and was transferred to a hospital. In the same month Peyman Aref was temporarily released from prison while awaiting the decision of the appeals court. He was re-arrested and transferred to ward 350 of Evin prison on in February 2011 to serve the remainder of his prison sentence.

More activists recently lashed by the Iranian authorities

Less than a month ago, Somayeh Tohidlou, a political activist arrested and held for 70 days in 2009, had to endure 50 lashes. According to reports, she was lashed by a male agent, but the blows “were slower than usual”, and she was clothed. Somayeh Tohidlou was sentenced to one year in prison and 50 lashes. Her prison sentence was overturned in the appeals court.

According to Daneshjoo News, a teacher was lashed in the northern city of Sari on July 31st for his participation in post-election protests.

Activist Mansour Faraji was lashed 30 times by Iranian authorities

The sentence of Siavash Eslami, a member of the board of directors of the Sari Teacher’s Union, was carried out while he was fasting (the Islamic month of Ramadan would start a day later, but some people start fasting one or two days in advance).

According to HRANA, he had been sentenced to 74 lashes on the charge of “Acting against national security through participation in post-election events”. The sentence was reduced to 37 lashes in the Appeals Court.

Siavash Eslami has 24 years of experience as a teacher. He has a Master’s degree in Political Science, and has been teaching Islamic Studies in Sari’s high schools.

Mansour Faraji, who is a political activist working with the United Student Front and the Iranian Democratic Front, was arrested in September 2007 and sentenced to three years suspended imprisonment, a $300 [USD] fine, and 30 lashes. The lashing sentence was carried out in early August 2011, according to the Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners in Iran.

In August 2011 Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sat down for an interview with Euro News. He said that Iranians are completely free in their country and people are able to criticize the president without any fear.

He said, “We’re a free society [and] everyone can express his or her views. There’s no problem [in that regard]…Nobody is imprisoned just for expressing their views. Under our law people are allowed to express their views. You may stay in Iran for one week and read the newspapers. The most radical of criticisms against the President can be seen and read in the newspapers. There are various people who criticize the president, without any fear.”

اجرای حکم ۷۴ ضربه شلاق برای پیمان عارف

حکم ۷۴ ضربه شلاق برای پیمان عارف، عضو زندانی جبهه ملی ایران امروز، یکشنبه ۱۷ مهر ماه ۱۳۹۰ در زندان اوین تهران اجرا شد.

سمیرا جمشیدی، همسر پیمان عارف درگفت‌وگو با وب‌سایت «خانه حقوق بشر ایران» با تایید این خبر گفت که این حکم هم‌زمان با پایان دوره‌ محکومیت وی و قبل از آزادی او اجرا شده است.

دادگاه انقلاب تهران این فعال سیاسی را به اتهام توهین به ریاست جمهوری به ۷۴ ضربه شلاق محکوم کرده بود. وی همچنین به «یک سال حبس تعزیری و محرومیت مادام‌العمر از حرفه روزنامه‌نگاری و عضویت و فعالیت در احزاب سیاسی» محکوم شده بود.

در حالی که سمیرا جمشیدی، می‌گوید که وضعیت روحی همسرش «خوب» است، گزارش‌های رسیده حاکی از این است که وضعیت جسمی وی خوب نیست و کمرش به دلیل ضربات وارده شلاق «به شدت» آسیب دیده است.

پیمان عارف، روزنامه‎نگار، از فعالان سابق دانشجویی و عضو سازمان دانش آموختگان جبهه ملی ایران است.

وی که در روزهای نخست پس از دهمین انتخابات ریاست جمهوری در خرداد ماه سال ۱۳۸۸ بازداشت شده بود، ۱اردیبهشت ۱۳۸۹ به صورت مشروط تا زمان قطعی شدن رأی حبس تعزیری از زندان اوین آزاد شد. وی وی ۲۱ بهمن ماه سال ۱۳۸۹ جهت تحمل حکم حبس تعزیری بازداشت و به بند ۳۵۰ زندان اوین منتقل شده بود.

سمیه توحیدلو، از فعالان سیاسی که در سال ۱۳۸۸ به مدت ۷۰ روز در بازداشت بود نیز روز ۲۳ شهریور ماه جاری مجبور به تحمل ۵۰ ضربه شلاق شد. بر اساس گزارش‌های رسیده از ضربات توسط یک مامور مرد و «آرام‌تر از حد معمولی» بوده و از روی لباس به بدن وی زده شده است.

دادگاه انقلاب این فعال سیاسی را به به یک سال حبس و ۵۰ ضربه شلاق محکوم کرده بود که حکم یک سال حبس وی در دادگاه تجدید نظر نقض شده بود.
