Literary Writer and Journalist Still Detained

Literary writer and journalist Javad Mahzadeh has been detained since the beginning of November. After his trial, he was sentenced to a four-year suspended* prison sentence.

According to Neday-e Sabz-e Azadi, Javad Mahzadeh is being held in Evin Prison, along with numerous other prisoners arrested after the June 2009 election.

His last novel, “Take Your Laughter from Me” was one of the highest-selling books in Tehran bookstores.

More than 90 literary writers, journalists, and critics wrote a letter to the head of the Judiciary, demanding the immediate release of Mahzadeh.

*A suspended sentence is a legal term for a judge’s delay of a defendant’s serving of a sentence after they have been found guilty, to allow the defendant to perform a period of probation.

چهار سال زندان برای يک نويسنده

جواد ماهزاده نويسنده و روزنامه نگار ادبي كه از اوايل آبان در بازداشت به سر مي برد ، پس از محاكمه به 4 سال زندان تعزيري محكوم شده است .

به گزارش ندای سبز آزادی، او هم اكنون در زندان اوين و همراه چند تن ديگر از بازداشتي هاي پس از انتخابات 22 خرداد نگهداري مي شود .

آخرين رمان او با نام” لبخندت را از من بگير” يكي از كتاب هاي پرفروش در برخي از كتابفروشي هاي تهران است.

چندي پيش بيش از 90 نويسنده ، منتقد و روزنامه نگار ادبي در نامه اي به رييس قوه قضاييه خواستار رعايت قانون درباره او آزادي سريعش شدند.
