Iranian human rights group calls for end to death sentences

Council of Human Rights Defenders condemns the 13 execution sentences handed to Iran’s post-election detainees and urges the judiciary to stop issuing such sentences.

In a letter addressed to Sadegh Larijani, head of the Iranian Judiciary, the council urges the official to find “a wise path” to handle the issued death sentences and to release the political prisoners.

In the post-election events, over 13 death sentences have been issued by Iranian courts and so far two of these sentences have been executed.

Mohammad Ali Zamani and Arash Rahmanipour are the two dissidents who were hanged in recent months in Tehran.

Shirin Ebadi, head of the Council of Human Rights Defenders, expressed grave concern regarding the death sentence handed to Mohammad Amin Valian, the 20-year-old student of Damghan University. She warns against the politicization of the judiciary by these sentences.

Shirin Ebadi expresses awe that “The murderers of our youth who created the catastrophes of Kahrizak and University of Tehran dorm are living in complete peace and security while the protesting youth are receiving death sentences on the charge of enmity with God.”

Four post-election protesters were killed under torture at Kahrizak prison and others subjected to harsh abuse. The University of Tehran dorm was also attacked in June of last year and students protesting the alleged fraud in the presidential elections were beaten and by some reports even killed.

In the post-election protests, at least 40 people have been killed and scores have been injured. Hundreds of political activists and journalists have been arrested and put to trial, some of them receiving heavy prison terms.

كانون مدافعان: احکام اعدام معترضان لغو شود

کانون مدفعان حقوق بشر، صدور بیش از ۱۳ حکم اعدام برای بازداشت‌شدگان حوادث پس از انتخابات را اقدامی «غیرانسانی» دانست و خواستار توقف صدور چنین احکامی از سوی قوه قضائیه شد.

این کانون در نامه‌ای که خطاب به صادق لاریجانی، رئیس قوه قضائیه نوشته، از وی خواسته برای احکام صادر‌شده، «تدبیری» اندیشیده و زندانیان سیاسی را آزاد کند.

در پی حوادث پس از انتخابات، بیش از ۱۳ حكم اعدام توسط دادگاه‌ها برای معترضان صادر شده كه تاكنون دو حكم از آنها اجرا شده است.

علی‌محمد زمانی و آرش رحمانی‌پور، دو نفری هستند که حکم اعدام آنها چندی پیش در تهران به اجرا گذاشته شد.

شیرین عبادی به عنوان رئیس کانون مدافعان حقوق بشر در نامه خود، با ابزار نگرانی از صدور حکم اعدام برای محمدامین ولیان، دانشجوی ۲۰ ساله دانشگاه آزاد دامغان، از آقای لاریجانی پرسیده که «آیا صدور چنین احكامی، شائبه رفتار سیاسی در قوه قضائیه را تشدید نمی‌كند؟»

خانم عبادی نوشته که رئیس قوه قضائیه نمی‌تواند «مدافع و توجیه‌کننده» چنین احکامی باشد و در مقابل آن «سکوت» کند.

رئیس کانون مدافعان حقوق بشر در بخش دیگری از نامه خود از اینکه «قاتلان جوانان كه در كهریزك و كوی دانشگاه فاجعه آفریدند، در آرامش و امنیت كامل به سر می‌برند»، اما برای جوانان معترض، به اتهام محاربه، حکم اعدام صادر می‌شود، اظهار شگفتی کرده است.

در این نامه همچنین، به کشته و زخمی شدن تعدادی از معترضان، در جریان ناآرامی‌های هشت ماه گذشته اشاره شده و آمده است که این مسائل، تاثیر «جبران‌ناپذیری» به همراه داشته است.

در جریان ناآرامی‌های پس از انتخابات، بر اساس آمارهای دولتی، دست‌کم ۴۰ تن کشته و ده‌ها نفر دیگر زخمی شدند.

طی این مدت، صد‌ها فعال سیاسی، اجتماعی و روزنامه‌نگار نیز بازداشت و محاکمه شده‌اند.
